Vermont's streams and lakes are precious

More than half of Vermont's homes have their own wastewater treatment system. In fact, this is usually a septic tank that has been grandfathered if installed before 2007. We Vermonters like our independence and freedom. It takes resilience and stamina to live out in the woods and mountains. Getting through every long and bone chilling winter is a real accomplishment, physically and mentally. The last thing we need is more regulation and a government that tells us how to live our lives. We got this. Now, if you are like me, you might live close to a pristine Vermont waterway. If you have the means and intention to protect and care for your immediate environment, you might want to consider building a proper wastewater treatment system that releases effluent more than 95% clean. No pressure, but if it is something you can do, why not do it? It's one of these things that improve life for all of us, and last not least for those who want to enjoy the pristine water of Lake Champlain.
